It does sound as if you may have a guest from spirit in your house. Please please do not be afraid - the first and most important thing that you must understand is that they are NOT a threat to yourself or your children. Many spirit children are drawn to happy houses with earthly children in them, as they remember the warmth of a family life when they were here before. They may well be drawn to you as you are obviously a caring mum, and the fact that you are aware of them will also make a difference - it may well be that they have been there for years, and the previous owners noticed nothing !
This child may well have adults looking after them in spirit, although as Ian says this is not a prerequisite, but from time to time may choose to return here to visit a place that reminds them of another time - they are simply visitors, and it is unlikely that they are in any way "trapped" here in your home.
When you next hear or feel the child, speak to it. You may feel a little foolish, but acknowledge that the child is there. You can always tell the child that it it time for it to leave your home, and that you are pleased to have been chosen for its visit but it is now time for it to return to its family back in the light. This may well be sufficient for the child to move on - but beware the possibility that you may miss it once it has gone ! Children who return to sprit do not need earthly adults to look after them but may from time to time come back in visitation if they had an attachment to the house to continue playing around. I doubt they will cause you any harm. If you ask them nicely but firmly to leave you alone they should honour your request unless they are residual energy left over from the past in which case it's just a holographic video recording being played once again from the past left in the fabric of the atmosphere.
