Father Shares Personal Revelations After Son’s Untimely Death
FISHERS, Ind. – On the day he was to return home after his first year at college, Gabriel Keith Logan Vaught was found dead in his dorm room. His father, Gary Vaught, relates how this unexpected tragedy transformed his spiritual life and brought him closer to God in his new book, “My Number Was Up, Dad!” (now available through AuthorHouse).
On April 23, 2004, Gabriel was supposed to return home after his first year at Saint Xavier University in Chicago. When he didn’t show up at the appointed time, his parents became concerned, but remembered his earlier request, three weeks prior, that they not excessively worry when he did not respond to telephone calls immediately.
Gabriel was an insulin-dependent diabetic who was very experienced and independent about caring for his chronic illness.
After waiting all day for Gabriel to arrive or call, Vaught called the university security and asked them to break into his room. When security entered his room, they found him dead where he had lied down to rest earlier that day. Gabriel’s parents were told that “something was very wrong” and they drove at breakneck speed to campus.
The Vaughts were in a state of shock and did not know how to deal with their grief. “The longest 10 seconds of any parent’s lifetime is when standing over a dearly departed child,” says Vaught. His parents learned that he had been seriously ill during the previous two days, and died from diabetes complications.
However, within the next few days, he received a message from his son that started a long journey resulting in his personal relationship with God and discovering the Light through divine messages received from Gabriel, Christ
and others.
“It was like a switch had been turned on inside of my heart and soul and I was now seeing life more clearly than ever before,” says Vaught. “Not just through the sadness of the grief of losing Gabe, but in the beauty of the recognition of what he was relaying to me in such holy ways about God, Jesus Christ and all living spirits from all time and most importantly, his happiness and peace within.”
Vaught provides inspiration and hope to readers who are also trying to find meaning after the death of a loved one. “There are no accidents … Open your heart, your soul and your mind … You are on your pathway to discovering who you really are,” he says.
