As a young girl I was very close to my Grandma, she would always encourage me to understand my gifts and would tell me stories about angels and fairies, my childhood was difficult but she was always a constant in my life and the belief that we were all looked after kept me going through some very tough times. As a teenager I spent more and more time with her, I have many happy memories about my time with her but one stands out more than any other.

Grandma lived in a modern home and I was never frightened in her house but one winters day at the age of sixteen I saw something that would cement my belief in angels for the rest of my life, I looked at the clock and it read 10pm so I said goodnight and went into the hall to climb the stairs to bed, I stopped dead as I saw a beautiful lady dressed in white floating up the stairs, she turned and smiled at me, at first I wanted to scream and run but something calming came over me and I knew she meant no harm, her hair was golden blond and she had an elegant air about her, she stopped as if to say something and then she disappeared. I went back into the kitchen and told my grandma what I had seen, she reassured me that it was just an angel taking care of me, I knew something else was to come.

That morning all was normal and we went about our business as usual, I made the beds and Grandma cooked a hearty breakfast, I heard a scream come from downstairs as I rushed down and I saw my gran laying on the floor clutching her stomach, I called an ambulance and waited by her side until they arrived.

Four hours later my mum, dad and I waited in the emergency ward for news of what had happened to her, a young doctor came to see us and told us that my Grandma had a burst appendix, what had surprised them was how she had not died as it had ruptured. I felt the lady on the stairs had been a message to say it was going to be alright, it took a while before she recovered fully but we knew it was a message from the spirit world.

Ten years later she died, the family were unable to get hold of me on the day she passed as I had no phone line at the time, but that very day as I sat with my friend the most beautiful smell passed both of us,it was sweet smelling like rose water and a butterfly patted on the window, I knew in my heart that she had gone and the phone call from my neighbors house to my mum house confirmed that, I never really grieved her passing as I knew Grandma had come to say goodbye and she was in a safe place. I will always be thankful for having her in my life and never giving up on me.
