I find myself in a garden of tranquil beauty, its is dawn time, that time of the morning when the sun bathes all in a golden glow and the warmth of the summer air brinfgs to you the faint scent of the flowers and the full rich smell of the Earth in all her glory. As I walk deeper into the garden the dew is still fresh on the roses and the sounds I hear all around me are the sounds of Life, gentle and full of love. The garden of life is full of the things you would expect to see in a wild life park crossed with an flower garden and meadow. The thought enters my mind that if this were night time the roses would look like dull clay models, the flame of their beauty asleep, but still as strong because they have known the hammer of the rain and the heat of the sun. I look at them as they wake up to a new day, pink and glowing, with diamonds of dew sparkling in the earlymorning sun and I am reminded of the love that pink roses are said to represent, but not only that, the dew diamonds also bring to mind one of my most favourite thoughts, that the Oneness of all things is represent in a cut diamond, it has many facets but it is still one stone.
There is wonder and joy in the stillness and birdsong that refreshes the soul and lifts the spirit to induce a sense of peace that no other setting can do. As I drink all this in I become aware of the sound of water as it flows melodiously down a gentley sloping backdrop of rocks and boulders, forming itself into a pool as clear as crystal. I walk down a soft grassy track and into the water, the bottom is lined with firm silver sand that remains undisturbed, not clouding the water as I walk on it. As I wade through the pool I realise that I am on familiar ground, but for the time being I my memory remains clouded. I make my way to the edge of the pool and follow the water as it flows out - and in it's turn becomes a crystal stream that trickles and chuckles over multicoloured pebbles as it makes it's way into the glade. the clearing is lush and green, of itself a thing of beauty that defies description. In the long grass graze does with fawns at foot, they are skittish as one would expect wild animals to be but then the stag comes forward and accepts grass from my hand, behaving just like a horse in his confidence.
I have long wondered about the wolf cubs I once saw in my childhood and whom I have never seen since. Now as I sat on a log taking in the beauty that surrounded me my thoughts turned to them again, wondering if in this place of enchantment I would see them again. As I thought of that experience from so long ago, not for the first time, the realization struck me of how childlike I felt. Although mature in years and mentality, there is a part of me that feels like a child. As I contemplate these things I become aware of a feeling of being watched, I look around me and in the distance I see two forms sitting on their haunches watching me, then they got up and started to move towards me, as they got closer my heart jumped for joy, for in an instant I had recognised my now two adult wolf cubs. They were silver grey with yellow eyes, magnificent adults who in their maturity seemed ageless. this time I had no reservations about touching them, but would they want me to handle them? I put out my hands for them to approach and sniff, they came forward and accepted my carresses, in an aloof sort of way. Gone were the playful cubs, in their place were a sedate dog and bitch of undefined age, beauty abd gracefulness. After a while the bitch gave a low growl followed by quiet yipping noises. I thought it was a signal to me that enough was enough of this humans contact, but no she wagged her tail and looked away from me and as I followed her gaze to my amazement I saw two cubs running and gamboling their way towards us. they fetched up in a squirming heap between their sires front legs. He stepped away from them and nudged them towards me. I pointed at the cubs and then to myself and as if he understood he lowered his head in consent. I didn't need telling twice, I got down off of my log and lay in the grass having those two little darlings running and jumping all over me was like being transported back in time to when I was six years old. This time I played with them too, holding the sqirming little cubs and insisting on kissing them! After a while the sire called them off and allowed me to give them a final kiss and cuddle before he and his mate, leting me give them a hug each, turned and made their way off and away from me. As I watched them leaving, with the cubs still romping around their long suffering parents legs, my thoughts turned to the One who had moved the waters and had shown the afflicted ones that in his eyes they were all beautiful and that they were only reflecting the worlds opinion of them. as I thought of him, there he was, standing slightly to in front and to the side of me. strangely I didn't jump like a startled rabbit, instead as if carrying on a conversation that had been briefly interupted I said "What did all that mean?" He smiled his usual teachers smile and said, "You were wondering why you feel so childlike, your adult wolf friends are as you are now, you first met when you were all cubs, Both you and them have matured and grown and changed. The bringing of the cubs to you is to show you there is nothing wrong or abnormal in feeling childlike. Remember to use your terminology, a whole world of difference between being childish and childlike. You may be mature in mind and body, but there is a childlike quality about you that enables you to to feel and experience the wonder of things as only a child can. you are both she wolf and cub, surely a sign to you, as if you need it, of birth and rebirth. The old she wolf although stayed in her ways can still, when out of sight of the pack allow herself to enjoy the indulgence of playing with her cubs, just don't let her know I told you!"
As I left the garden, I was filled with wonder, for I had remembered in whole that I had indeed been there before, but this time instead of being a passive observer, I had interacted with events in thw garden and spoken with the "Chief Gardener"!
Go to the garden, feel the wonderment and joy of the birdsong, the sound of the water as it flows melodiously round boulders and over the pebbles, talk to your particular Master and learn your truth. the garden of life contains whatever you want to see, experience or be at any given time - and can be nothing but a blessing to you.
