Who I Am
I’m so much more than my name alone
Or the place where I choose to live
And I’m measured not by riches
But the love my heart has to give
By the time I make for loved ones
The help I offer to those in need
How frequently I give to the destitute
Not the money I hoard away in greed
By how often I smile at strangers
See the beauty contained in a day
Count my blessings for what I already have
Rather than dwell on what’s yet to come my way
Help the people that come in search of it
Turn away those I should try to help
Care for the bleak misfortunes of others
And the hand in life they’ve been dealt
Keep going when things turn trying
Give up when things become bleak
Stay silent when witness to an injustice
A time when I’m meant most to speak
Never lose faith in the world of Spirit
Or the magic they splendidly weave
As my eyes fail to see a physical presence
That my heart and mind can believe
For some things never truly disappear
Even when unseen for a time by our eyes
Like the sun moving away in the night time
To shine ever bright for a time in other skies
So I make a choice to be all that I can be
Rejoice in all that I am
I may not always be 100% successful
But ultimately I’m doing the very best I can
Who could ask for more than that?
